Puerto Concha, Venezuela - 2007

Lake Maracaibo is not really a lake, but a sort of extended estuary. It is open on its northern end to the Caribbean sea but is also the endpoint of many small rivers which make it a brackish rather than a salt water body.

Puerto Concha is a small fishing village on the southern shore of the lake. Still mostly undeveloped, it is a region of mangrove forests and bays with abundant wildlife and seafood.

I actually stayed out in the lake on fishermen's huts on stilts which is an experience in its own right.%0D
