Siwa, Egypt - 2006

Set in the middle of the Sahara desert, the Siwa Oasis is much larger than those Saturday morning cartoons would imply. Set in a despression in the ground (thus, where the water flows to), it is filled with palm trees, donkeys and dust.

The Siwans were isolated for a long time and have developed their own particular culture, some of which is kind of quirky. For example, they (for unexplained reasons) don't keep female donkeys in the oasis.

Quite a beautiful place which I would love to go back and spend some time getting to know it better.%0D
